Biography

We are heart broken to share that our beloved mother/grandmother, Barbara (Barb) Eleanor Holesworth of Lower Sackville, passed away on February 29th, 2024 at the age of 81. She was born in Wolfville, NS to the late Hugh and Kathleen “Kay” (Farris) Davidson. She attended Wolfville High School where she was a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey team and the Glee Club. After mom finished school, she moved to Bedford NS to live with her sister and brother in law for a short time before marrying her former husband the late John Holesworth.
Mom worked a few jobs before finding her career at Scotiabank. She remained there for 24 years before retiring. She couldn’t sit still for long and after a year and a half she returned to work at Lawtons Drugs where she remained until she retired for the 2nd time on September 15th, 2023.
Mom loved everyone she met. She was a little spitfire, with an abundance of energy and happiness that was contagious. Her beautiful smile lit up any room she entered. She was the type of woman who would give you the shirt off her back, even if she couldn’t afford to do so. She loved her scratch tickets, crossword puzzles and Harlequin Romance novels. She would sit in her recliner with the TV on in the background (usually a NCIS show or Halmark movie), to scratch her tickets, read or do her puzzles. In the summer you could find her outside with us around the fire pit or playing washer toss. She was a very worthy opponent.
She is survived by her children, Patrica Chaney, Victoria BC, Ron (Sarah) Holesworth, Halifax NS, and Barbie (Scott) Moore, Lower Sackville, NS, grandsons, Kristian (Arianne), Jacob (Kaylin) & Zackery, granddaughters Alex (Jordan) & Eyrn (Lee), great grandson Everett; sisters Juanita Clahane, Phyllis (George) Heath, brother John (Doris) Davidson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her sisters Donna Davidson (infancy), Joy Manning; brother Gary Davidson; son-in-law Joseph Chaney and many other brother and sister in laws.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at the Sackville Legion on April 20th,2024 from 1-3 pm.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the nurses and the CCA’s on 4.1 QE2 Hospital, especially her CCA Peter. He treated her like gold and she was very fond of him. We would also like to thank the Doctors and nurses at Hospice Halifax, they made her last days very comfortable and peaceful.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Halifax can be made in memory of mom.
